The Legacy of Action Films

Cinema Rules

When you think of an action movie what do you think of? Maybe Die Hard, terrible CGI action, or just generally Michael Bay. Whatever it is we all have a basic idea of what an “action” movie is.

ROOTS OF ACTION FILMS

Some consider the “Great Train Robbery to be the first action movie to ever be released to theaters. This film was much different to the action films we have today, heck it was much different than some of the action films in the 60s and 70s.

-THE 70s and 80s ERA OF ACTIONS FILMS

In the 1970s and 80s we got to see the introduction of CGI, but still crazy stunts not using CGI. A great staple of this would be the Indiana Jones franchise (the first three) in the 1980s. This movie used some CGI, but mainly used practical effects.

THE BEGINNING OF CGI OVERUSE

During the time for the late 1990s and the early 2000s the overuse of CGI was starting to become a thing in cinema especially action movies. This is mainly because it was just easy to just computer generate the scene instead of actually doing it for the movie.

Examples of this CGI overuse are films such as; Green Lantern, Die Hard 4 and 5, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, etc

-FINAL CHAPTER

After this we would see CGI come in more and more, not saying it’s all bad I’m just saying there was a lot. Anyway CGI has became a big theme in action films as a whole and has taken over the action films industry.

Anyway this article covers how CGI has taken the “action” movie in a big way and how it has impacted the action movie genre. This concludes the article
